Leadership: Church Staff

Bethlehem is truly blessed with a wonderful, energetic and compassionate staff. They are able to teach, assist, enable and encourage us to live out our calling, “Blessed to be a blessing.”

Nancy Tiff, Office Coordinator

s 2015 NancyTiffAs office coordinator, I joined the staff of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in August of 2004. Along with primary duties of office administration and management, I must coordinate building use for two congregations, Bethlehem and Light of Christ, and for various outside groups that use our facility.

I absolutely love my job here at Bethlehem and the people with whom I work. Every day is different and challenging as I keep up with council and a multitude of projects. The fellowship we share is one of the best things about Bethlehem; there’s something for everyone. Family is very important to me, and Bethlehem is a family church.

ab s dk nt 2015 halloween IMG 0284In addition to my managerial responsibilities, keeping an eye on our senior population is a ministry I especially enjoy. This probably stems from my teenaged years working at a local care center. Our elders have stories and history that they need to share and we need to hear.

While I consider my roots are in Nebraska, I moved here with my family when my dad retired from the Air Force in 1971. I married Jim, a handsome local young man, and together we raised our son, Jake. We’ve worshipped at Bethlehem for many years.

Deaconess Ann Maki, Faith Formation Interim Director

Ann Maki-2Deaconess Ann Maki is happy to continue her interim ministry role here at Bethlehem. "I look forward to serving the youth of all ages and their families through the ministries. As an interim, part of my role is to honor the meaningful traditions, yet make tweaks as there are needs. I also am called to meet the youth where they are as well as prepare everyone for the next faith formation leader. Originally I am from Cleveland, Ohio. Music education was my undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State in Ohio, and I attended Valparaiso University for my theological studies. After my internship in Boulder, I married my husband, Nate, and also became a consecrated deaconess in the Lutheran Diaconal Association; I am also a rostered deacon in the ELCA. Seeing where God has called me to serve has been such a Spirit filled ride. Helping others see where God is in their lives is a great joy and honor. I am glad to walk along side with God's children (of all ages) on their journey of faith.

Brenda Harris, Worship and Music Director

BLC BRENDAI am delighted to be here at Bethlehem Lutheran as your Music Director! I come to you, originally, from Tucson, Arizona, where I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance with a minor emphasis in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona.

I grew up in the rich musical tradition of the Southern Baptist church, where I began playing for services when I was 13. Since that time, I served as pianist, organist, choir director, and worship leader in Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches, as well as a Reform synagogue. When asked by one pastor, "Well, just what are you?" I had to respond, "I'm a musician!" God's love manifests itself in music and I am blessed to have worked in this wonderful profession all of my adult life.

In addition to church work, after obtaining my teaching certification, I worked in the publicBLC BRENDA 2 schools, teaching general music, piano lab, choir, and drama. My students ranged from preschool to senior high, with my particular favorite being middle school students. I look forward to working with the children and youth here at BLC.

I have two lovely daughters, Valerie who lives in Phoenix, Arizona and Miriam, who graduated from Silver Creek High School and attends Berklee College of Music in Boston.

I am grateful to join your family here at Bethlehem Lutheran.

If you enjoy singing or play an instrument, please consider joining one of our musical groups. I would love to hear from you and answer any questions you might have (brenda@bethlehem-lutheran.net or 303-776-3290). Thanks and blessings to you!

Ray Leake, Pianist

As a professional musician, I have shared my talent and love of music with Bethlehem for several years now. Before coming to Bethlehem, I played at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for 26 years.

s 2015 RayAtPiano 2I have written several piano/organ arrangements for Bethlehem’s Christmas and Easter services as well as a Jazz Gospel service. Held twice a year on Pentecost and All Saints Day, Jazz Gospel includes a seven-piece Dixieland Band and offers both an uplifting experience and a joyous celebration.

My "real" job consists of teaching private piano lessons, playing with and writing arrangements for several bands, writing orchestral arrangements that have been performed by the Jefferson Symphony, and frequent gigging.

Karen Haag, Bookkeeper

Karen-1468-2Hello! I joined the staff of Bethlehem Lutheran Church as the bookkeeper in the fall of 2017. I am excited to part of the supportive, friendly staff of the church. As you can guess, I'm responsible for paying bills, monitoring expenses, payroll and, generally, keeping track of the church finances. I am also responsible for the same duties for our Cornerstone Preschool. I bring previous experience as a church bookkeeper to my position here at Bethlehem Lutheran.

I am a life-long Lutheran and recently moved to Colorado from Wilmington, NC and, previously, the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. I attended Thiel Lutheran College in Greenville, PA and the University of Maryland. My 44 years in VA included 33 years in the financial industry, primarily in residential mortgage financing and retail banking. I moved to CO in retirement because my only child relocated to Denver and, well, CO is just beautiful. I look forward to traveling in the western states, something I've done very little of having lived on the east coast all my life.

I'm so happy that I chose Longmont as my new home. I have found so much to do. I share my home with my adopted kitty, Colleen.

You can reach Karen at bookkeeper@bethlehem-lutheran.net or by calling the church office.
