Meet Pastor Mark Peterson

s 2015 PetersonMark 2I have been Pastor at Bethlehem since 2005 and I feel very blessed to be serving this congregation. I have had the privilege of serving my entire ministry on the front range of Colorado in the Rocky Mountain Synod of the ELCA. Serving first at Holy Trinity in Littleton for five years, I then moved to Black Forest Lutheran for seven years while developing a mission church in the Monument area. Before coming to Bethlehem, I served for 16 years at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Boulder.

I am a native westerner, having been born in Casper, Wyoming. I have also lived in Pittsburgh, New Orleans (Tulane University grad), Manchester, England and Chicago (Lutheran School of Theology). Ruth, my wife of 40 years, and I have four children: Aaron (an architectural engineer in the Bay area married to Anne), Nate (an editor for CBS Sports in Ft. Lauderdale married to Emily), Jesse (works for ADP in Nashville, married to Jon), and Micah (works for Ericson Senior Living, married to Alex). Ruth and I are blessed with four delightful grandchildren: Hayden, Jacob, Grace and Maxwell.

When not at work in and about the congregation, I love to "shredd" (snowboard) in the winter and hike all other seasons. At home, I enjoy working out in the yard and doing landscaping. Whether my teams win or lose, I avidly support CU Buffs football and basketball and the Rockies. I am nearing completion of a Doctor of Ministry degree through Lutheran Seminary.

PMP pulpit 2015At Bethlehem, I focus on worship, evangelism, social action, adult education, confirmation, and support ministries, the latter including property, finance, stewardship, church council, and staff. "Blessed to be a Blessing" is our motto at Bethlehem where we respect our Lutheran heritage while we welcome the Holy Spirit inviting us out of our comfort zone and into the world.
