Middle school and Confirmation

Middle school and confirmation: grades 6-8

ff WritingHandBible 1Confirmation Ministry at Bethlehem Lutheran Church is a three year ministry program for youth in grades 6, 7 and 8. Over the three years, they will study the Ten Commandments, the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Old and New Testaments of scripture and cover topics relevant to living a life of faith in current times. Students meet on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings throughout the school year. Additionally, each Confirmation Student is assigned an adult Mentor who walks alongside them for the entire three year period. The Rite of Affirmation of Baptism is traditionally celebrated in worship at the end of the 8th grade year for those who wish to affirm their faith.

Spring Break for Preschool–High School

There will be no Sunday School for preschool–high school students on March 24 and 31 for Spring Break.

Confirmation Coffee

Confirmation Class will be headed to Luna Café on 8th and Coffman on Sunday, April 7, 9:15–10:15 a.m. Please RSVP to Deaconess Kristen (kristen@bethlehem-lutheran.net) if your student is coming, and complete the online WAIVER. Meet in the narthex and bring some money for treats. If that’s a problem (or they forget), we will cover them! If you are an adult who is available to tag along as an adult leader, please let Deaconess Kristen know ASAP. Your coffee will be covered as a thank you for your time!

Confirmation Class Service Project

This month we will be hand making “thinking of you” cards on Sunday, April 28 at 9:15–10:15 a.m. to be delivered to Longmont Meals on Wheels. These cards will then be delivered to the meal recipients with their meals. If you have items that would be good for card making (stamps, card stock, decorative stickers, or papers) that you would like to donate to this project, please bring items to Deaconess Kristen.

Confirmation Class Egg Dyeing and Stuffing Party

Bring a dozen hard boiled eggs to dye and a bag of small individually wrapped candy on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. We will dye the real eggs, and put the candy in plastic eggs for the Easter Egg hunt on April 20. It’s always a good time! And because it’s over the dinner hour, there will be pizza! Please let Deaconess Kristen (kristen@bethlehem-lutheran.net) know if your student will be there.

Easter Eve Lock-In

Middle School and High School Youth will once again do an Easter Eve Lock-In on Saturday, April 20 beginning at 9:00 p.m. We will do some group building games, decorate the fellowship hall, prepare Easter breakfast, and set up as much as we can. We will also rehearse for the sunrise worship service. There will be required down/quiet time from when the breakfast is prepared and fellowship hall is completely decorated until 6:00 a.m. Shhhhhhh...we hope they sleep! RSVP to Deaconess Sara Loberg (sarah@bethlehem-lutheran.net) by April 18.

2018/19 Mentor Ministry

The Mentor Ministry of Bethlehem Lutheran Church is a cross-generation ministry in which one adult in the congregation is assigned to one confirmation student. This adult agrees to pray for that student daily, contact them weekly and get together monthly. Monthly events are coordinated by Deaconess Kristen. Additional times of getting together outside of programed activities are on student-mentor basis and agreed on by the student's parents. The Mentor ideally walks alongside the student for the entire three years of the student's time in the Confirmation Ministry. The relationship that is formed continues beyond those three years in a natural way. Additional information on activities is found below.

Mentor Ministry at Urban Servant Corps in Denver

As Holy Week begins, we will gather, learn, pray, and respond! On April 14, 11:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., we will participate in a Prayer Walk at Urban Servant Corps in Denver. Urban Servant Corps volunteers will lead walking tours around the neighborhood and placement sites where they have been present and serving for 32 years. They will share more fully about the mission of Urban Servant Corps, a ministry of the Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA. We will offer prayers for those who are most in need in our community. Mentors and Mentees are invited to come walk, reflect, and learn about the ministry of this big church of which we are a part. We will meet after worship to eat a SACK LUNCH (so don’t forget to bring one) then we will pile in our church bus, Josephine, and head to Denver. Departure time is 11:45 a.m., and we will return to BLC by 4:00 p.m. We will inform parents of the most accurate pick-up time when we are on our way. May this gathering be an act of faithful support for the justice we seek in our neighborhoods!

Confirmation Camp, June 23–28, 2019: The Exodus

Current 5th–8th graders, you won’t want to miss this exciting week of camp at Sky Ranch on June 23–28 with other confirmation groups from the Rocky Mountain Synod! We will explore the story of the Exodus in ways you never imagined. There will be lots of surprises along the way! If you would like to join us, please email Deaconess Kristen.
The total cost of camp will depend on the council approved annual budget. The price (including the $100 deposit) is $440, but Bethlehem Lutheran Church will off–set as much as possible of the cost of camp. The amount is TBD until the first part of 2019. However, if financial reasons are the only thing keeping you from sending your kiddo to camp, please contact Deaconess Kristen as scholarships are available.
