Advent Fest!

As the calendar days slip through our fingers racing toward December, the education committee will be equipping families to celebrate Advent in a memorable and meaningful way this year. The word Advent is derived from a Latin word, which means coming. And indeed, something momentous is coming. Something so momentous that it warrants a pause—a break in our routine and a shift in our focus. So we invite all to join us on Wednesday, November 15 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. to do just that.

Over the course of our short evening, we will share a meal together and then move into a celebration of the four themes associated with Advent—love, joy, peace, and hope. There will be a station with an activity for each of those four themes. And best of all, you’ll end the evening with something lovely to bring home and incorporate into your family’s observance of Advent this year.

As part of our station focused on love, we will be doing something to express love. In particular, we are loving newborn babies, who much like Baby Jesus, are born into challenging or distressing circumstances. Lutheran Family Services has a need for newborn starter bags to be given to at–risk infants. In the Narthex, there is a signup sheet for baby items that we need to assemble some newborn starter bags. Please consider signing up to donate an item(s) as a way of demonstrating love this Advent season. Items may be dropped off any time until November 15 in the bin labeled, Advent Fest Newborn Starter Bags.

In order to have enough food and supplies, please signup on the attendance sheet in the Narthex by November 12 (sooner is better). Please contact Jamie Jurkovich with any questions or to be involved in this event. All are welcome!

Our preschool–fifth grade students will be doing a service project for HOPE again this year, but we’re switching it up a bit. Instead of making sandwiches, the students will be cooking up some delicious chili for HOPE to distribute as part of their homeless outreach program in Longmont. We will email a signup list about two weeks before the event to allow students and parents to sign up to bring an ingredient for the chili or another part of the meal. We will plan on cooking and packing the meals on Sunday, October 29 during Sunday school. We can always use extra volunteers to help guide the children in this process. If you are willing to lend a hand, please contact Jamie Jurkovich ( to share your culinary skills with our young ones.

Boomwhacker Wednesdays!

In addition, there will be fellowship and devotions for the whole family, homework club, and FUN! For more details, please contact Deaconess Kristen ( or Brenda, ( Sessions will begin on Wednesday, September 6 through November 15, from 6:00–6:50 p.m. in the choir room. Dinner will be provided in the Fellowship Hall for participating families the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15 p.m.

Holy Communion Class

We have an open communion practice at Bethlehem. We say "all are welcome" to God's table of grace. That means children are welcome. Each year we offer a communion class for our second graders to help in their understanding of this gift. This class is for parents and children. For more information, contact Pr. Peterson or Deaconess Kristen.

Communion Class Fall 2017

Every fall, we invite our second and third graders to learn more about this precious gift of Holy Communion. We also have fun, stomping grapes and we get creative as they make their own communion chalices. This class is for the kids and their parents to share together. For those who are interested, we will also do acolyte training.
