Faith Formation Interim Director Position Update & Congregation Meeting June 2

The interview team for the Faith Formation Interim Director (which included Executive Council members Greg Schumann, Matt James, Gene Schnabel, Cindy Tayler, Pastor Katie Chullino, and the Faith Formation Chair Brian Carlson) accepted three applications for the Faith Formation Interim Director position, held interviews with two applicants, and in consultation with the Rocky Mountain Synod, recommends that Bethlehem Lutheran Church extend an Interim-Term Call to Deaconess Ann Maki to serve as our Faith Formation Interim Director for a period of six-ten months.

We feel that your awareness of these proceedings and your input is valuable, so the council has chosen to hold this congregational meeting for discussion and a vote to approve this call.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom; the link will be shared through the weekly email and annoucements.

Please feel free to contact Council President Greg (president@bethlehem-lutheran.net) or Pr. Katie (pastor@bethlehem-lutheran.net) with any questions regarding this decision. Please contact Jenny with any technical questions regarding Zoom (communications@bethlehem-lutheran.net).

Past Special Events

Special Congregational Meeting: Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m.

As stated in the letter to the congregation on May 3, we will be holding a special congregational meeting on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. We are holding this congregation meeting to both share more information pertaining to the grant and to vote as to whether or not we will accept the monies. Prayerfully consider how we can continue to fund the mission of our congregation and join us on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. The link information will be shared in the weekly email and announcements. The only item on the agenda for this meeting is to discuss and vote on whether we use the PPP funds of $57,992.82.

As this is our first congregation meeting held via Zoom, we encourage you to contact Jenny (communications@bethlehem-lutheran.net , 303-651-6226) with questions regarding video conferencing and meetings. We will also go over a few rules and etiquette for online meetings and voting options as we begin the meeting. Please feel free to contact Council President Greg (president@bethlehem-lutheran.net) or Pr. Katie (pastor@bethlehem-lutheran.net) with any questions on the PPP.

Welcome Our "Online" Intern, Kelsey Fauser!

As you have likely heard or read, Bethlehem was approached to be a short-term site for an intern pastor from the Rocky Mountain Synod. Kelsey has spent the last 8-9 months as an intern pastor in Bratislava and had to return stateside as the COVID-19 pandemic grew.

Council voted on April 14 to welcome her into our BLC community from April 27, 2020 to July 24, 2020. Intern Kelsey will be joining us in our online church endeavors and in-person if/when restrictions are lifted. She is currently in Florida until restrictions are lifted and she can return to her family home in Crested Butte.

Kelsey is currently in her third year at The Lutheran School of Theology (LSTC) and has one final academic year to go before being called to a church as an Ordained Pastor.

Kelsey is a Coloradan, born in Glenwood Springs and grew up in New Castle, CO. Being a native, Kelsey loves hiking, skiing, and watching wildflowers bloom come springtime.

She is very excited to be in community with BLC and is eager to connect with everyone, whether that be sitting for a virtual cup of tea together or in-person tea once travel restrictions start to be lifted.

You can welcome and meet Kelsey during a special "Zoom Coffee & Tea Hour" on Sunday, May 3, at 10 a.m. A link will be provided in the Weekly Email; contact Jenny if you need more information (communications@bethlehem-lutheran.net).

Confirmation Bowl-A-Thon for Nicaragua

A very generous anonymous donor has presented a financial challenge for our Confirmation students! They will donate up to $1000 as a matching donation for funds raised by youth for the Nicaragua Project. The Nicaragua Project was the focus of Justin Dirkes' fundraising challenge when he was in 8th grade. Now that Justin is a mentor for a current 8th grader, Justin will lead this effort with his mentee, Jackson Updegraff. Confirmation students will be asking for and accepting pledges for the number of pins knocked down, spares, and strikes on March 1, 8 and 15. Students and Mentors will bowl the afternoon of March 15, and after the totals are tallied, we will collect your donations. Donations can also be made online using our website Donate page and scroll down to Nicaragua Missions, choose "Nicaragua CPF Annifu Income," and enter "Bowl-a-thon" in the comment box. Thank you in advance for your support! Please contact Deaconess Kristen (kristen@bethlehem-lutheran.net) with any questions.

Youth Ministry Adult Leader Gathering

Would you like to be one of them? This group will be gathering at the home of Deaconess Kristen for a time of fellowship and connection.

Pastor Katie's Installation!

Communion Liturgy Toward Full Communion

Wednesday, October 30, 5:45–9:30 p.m.: The Rocky Mountain Synod (RMS) and Ecumenical Catholic Communion (ECC) Liturgy toward Full Communion. History is being made! The congregations within the RMS that are partnered with the ECC are working hard to honor those partnerships and bless their paired ministries.

To this end, there is going to be a worship service that highlights these partnerships. Deaconess Kristen and other adult leaders will be taking the Confirmation Class on a "field trip" to this worship service. You are welcome to join us! We will depart BLC at 5:45 p.m. and head to St. Paul Lutheran and Catholic Church, 1600 Grant Street Denver, CO, 80203, and return to BLC by 9:30 p.m. at the latest. Please let Deaconess Kristen (kristen@bethlehem-lutheran.net) know if you wish to join us.
